One of my co-workers said Mr. Higley was in a resdential care facility.

I would like to know what became of some of the people I worked with at KSMU. I wonder how many still work in the industry.

Ron is at KSPR TV. Kathy has a blog called Crime Scene (a great read) and Dave Richman is still here in town. He works for a medical transport company.

I talked to Iggy not long back. Not sure what he is doing. At one point he was forced out of his job at one of the St. Louis station so they could hire Kevin Slaten. I won't put my thoughts on what kind of guy Slaten is here since this is a family board.;)

Nathan Miles doesn't ring a bell.

In my VERY BRIEF (8 weeks?) part-time stint at the old KBUG in Fall 1973 -- before I took a full-time job (that lasted 4 months) at KSWM in Aurora (and then cooked tacos at Taco Hut, when it was brand new and next to the old Kmart on West Sunshine, near KY-3) -- -- --
I worked with Ben Atwell, Bill Davis and Audrey Burtram.
Larry Dixon owned KBUG at the time.

Since I moved to Jeff City in 1974, I have no clue what happened with any of those folks.
I heard Audrey once, on KAAY (before it went to religious programming) ...but that also was a long time ago.

Showing my age in mid-Missouri ...................

Ben Atwell was working at the VA hospital in Mt. Vernon in an administrative job but left there a year or so ago, don't know where he is now. Audrey Burtrum lives in Little Rock AR, married to an attny.  she was here in Springfield last week for Jerry Hayes' funeral wake, I talked with her.  Larry Dixon runs a pizza joint at Lone pine and Battlefield Rd in Spfd.   Larry's son, John Dixon runs Ripley's Believe it or  Not in Branson.

I wonder about some of the old KICK voices, like Jim Stanley, B. Sharpe, and Gerry Durnell. And people like Ray Shermer, Terry Moore, and some of the others who were on KTTS before it was country.

I worked at KBUG for awhile in 1974-75. That automation system was HUGE, physically taking up a rather large room in that small building.

"Has anyone hear heard anymore on Mr. Mahan's condition?"

Devo is trying to find out about him in the news forum. Just thought I might be able help him out here.

Holy Cow!  An InstaCart, a.k.a. InstaError!  They were beasts.  Was that one the "Disco 106" machine?

Buddy, that pic is from 1989 at KTOZ am1060 inside the building on w bennett.  Opposite from this beast were three racks of reel players and rotary cart machines.  I kept a few of those carts.

Don Sylvester among others would come by and play records occasionally.  Denney Goode also played inside the FM as the Sandman during the early 90's.  I understand Denney is still alive and in the sgf area.

Regarding the photo, oh yeah. I remember many evenings standing at that little keyboard and programming the next day. KBUG was a daytimer so after sunset, the task before leaving was to get the next day's music and commercials programmed into the computer.

In '76 I started at KMBZ-KMBR in Kansas City and KMBR was automated beautiful music. The size of that computer system dwarfed the one at KBUG. We referred to the system at KMBR as "Arnold."

I dealt with that automation system at KCKN and the reel to reel machines were on the monster, it was a beast...no wonder that automation was never able to make big inroads until the more reliable computer systems of today.

Someone mentioned Jim Stanley I believe he is dead.  He had a funny comment once, claiming that by over modulating and burring the VU meters KICK had a better signal and would travel further.

Did TV game show legend Bob Barker work at the old KGBG AM or KTTS AM?
