I'm hearing from some in the industry that Z 106 changed to The River. I usually don't like any station that calls itself the River. They are usually boring.
I realize that some will be upset that I brought up a "music" topic. That upsets some on the board. I guess I'll just have to get another badly written "Stopping posting about music" e-mail.

"Stop Posting about Music?" Since when?
Considering that 90% of what we do is music, I call it a legitimate topic.

| That is what I thought. I think this person is anti-music radio.

That is exactly the problem with that positioning name. It has been used for all of those.
I found out after I got to work, so I have no idea what they are playing. I heard about this from someone at Q on Facebook.

From their new website -
http://www.1067theriver.com/
Hi, this is Rex Hansen, vice president and general manager of Journal Broadcast Group Springfield and Z-106.7 with some exciting news for Springfield radio listeners. Today, I am announcing a new, unique and different format on 106.7. Due to audience changing tastes and opinions we've decided to leave the Rock format on 106.7. We thank you for supporting Z-106.7 over the years, but times have changed and frankly, your taste and opinions on radio have too.
Recently, we spoke to thousands of radio listeners just like you---You told us radio has become predictable with tiny station playlists with the same songs over and over. You said why can’t a radio station in Springfield offer real music variety with a large playlist from multiple decades? We heard you!!!!
I'm very happy to introduce Springfield's NEW 106.7 The River. The New 106.7 The River will feature Springfield's LARGEST on-air library. Thousands of songs from the 60s to today----Rock to Pop and the timeless classics you'll find it here totally random! We'll also offer fewer interruptions than the other stations with no annoying DJ chatter giving you a station that will focus on lots of music from 5-decades. Real MUSIC VARIETY has finally arrived in Springfield. Give it a listen then come back and gives us your feedback. We're listening!
Sincerely,
Rex Hansen
VP/GM Journal Broadcast Group/Springfield

| I just heard from someone said it is a Jack/Alice "we're like an Ipod only programed by a format consultant."

No annoying DJ chatter is that code for a few people lost thier jobs ? We have a JACK FM here in Salina, its ok for Salina but if it the same thing in Springfield... will last as long as 92.9 ( BASS) was an all 80's station. Just my humble opinion

| In other words, it will be auto-pilot radio.

| I prefered Q 102 any way. It has the rebeliousness that is missing from rock radio.

95.5, 101.3, 105.1, 105.9 and now 106.7 all playing the same crap. Wow...this was a huuuuuge mistake! Then again, I'm not suprised. After seeing what Journal has done to KTTS...
The River...YANK YANK!!!

When I first started working in this market we had three AC stations, country stations and three classic rock stations. One of the AC stations changed about two times before becoming another country station. One country station became CHR and one classic rock station became sports.
However, it does seem like we are going back to being redundant formats. We also have three talk stations on top of that.
Seems like I had a nightmare about this.

| I probably shouldnt make negative comments about a station I am not there to listen to. My guess is 106.7 decided that there just wasnt enough fans to go around and figured Q102 was too tough. I also think alot of people STILL equate 106.7 as the chick music pop station it was before. Plus 106.7 was never sure if it wanted to be US 97 or Q102 and was a rough mix of both. Maybe the River thing will work, it does make me want a 44 ounce soda just thinking about it.
