I was on my way to do my show in Gainsville on Thursday, so i took the time to dial around and listen...Are you ready for this...the station I enjoyed the most was 92.5 in Ava...That's right, AVA!!  They were local, filled with information about things going on in Douglas County, and the best part, the announcers sounded like they loved what they were doing!  I then listened to KTTS on my way home at 4:15...not impressed with the new PD there and his airwork, or their flow..very choppy.  I guess my point is this small town station, even though they weren't polished, showed more conviction and charm than the #1 station in our market.  Thoughts are welcome!

My favorite and the one that gets well over 1/2 of my listening these days is KOMC FM in Branson.  I like their music mix...local news and network news on the hour.  All things considered they do a darn good job!....oh, that's 100.1 on the dial.

Hoop is it 92.1 Ava or 92.5 Mountain Grove? 92.5 sounds really good right now. The company I worked for for several years owns that and one of my best friends Keith Stephens is the GM.

Maybe it would have helped STAR to start the holiday music last spring?

Back to the original topic...

Ava is what local radio should be.  They've always had a good show, and they own the market because of it.

As the great Curt Brown says often:  Superserve your audience.  Few broadcasters get that today.

Playing Christmas music has nothing to do with the season (when its before Thanksgiving) and more with the pocket books of the radio station.

Talk about taking Christ out of Christmas.

The thing I don't like about wall to wall Christmas music is it is repetative. When people make Christmas recordings, they record the same standards over and over.:(

You know radio has gone downhill when the DJ teases what artist he is gonna play next and you already know what song it is gonna be because they dont play any other songs by that artist and it is not some one hit wonder. You know radio is going downhill when Rush is the least militant show on your local AM station. You know radio has gone downhill when on a Friday night there are no music stations because every station is doing high school football ( Salina thing ) You know radio is going downhill when thier website is more interesting than thier on air programming. Actually the biggest sign radio has gone downhill when it is no longer a tingling thrill to pick up a far away station because hell they all sound alike now.

You know radio has gone down hill when you realize what once was THE PASSION of the first 50 years of your life is now reduced to something you really can't enjoy. When you scan the radio dial you get tired of the JUKEBOX MUSIC,no personality, little information, totally disconnected with what you are looking for...Resulting in turning the RAIDO off and turning the c.d. and tapes on. At least you are enjoying the music. That's why when I travel I leave the radio off and play my selected music.
