after listening on and off for a week
i'm not as excited to turn the radio on
each morning.  I know the show generates
revenue from advertising but Booms' new
show runs more advertising than an infomercial
at 3am.  To me it seems like you hear Chucky
ranting for 5 minutes, 1 caller that's 80
years old then 15 minutes of news and commercials.

The people/host he has working with him sounds
more like my grandpa Bill and there's not much
bickering between them, like the Kiley and Booms
show.  But maybe that's what i miss and what i
was expecting, but it's not going to happen
on this gig anytime soon that i see.

Heck, i could do a better job co-hosting the show.
Least we'd get some banter between a democrat and
a republican.  But maybe with some more time the show
will get better and more energetic.

Good Luck Boomer

I have listened for a few days and am undecided so far.  My first two thoughts are...

His voice on a 10 scale is about a 2 or 3 and ...

Too much sports on a regular talk show format...save it for the sports station.

OK, as a non-sports person, may I respectfully ask.....

Who is Chuck Booms, and why is he in Springfield, Missouri?

I first heard him like a year and a half, 2 years ago when he did weekends on Fox Sports Radio.  As to what he's doin' in Springfield, your guess is as good as mine, and I don't have a guess.

Chuck Booms is a stand-up comic who co-hosted a show with Kevin Kilie called Kilie and Booms. It ran on Jock 98.7 in 2001 and 2002. Kilie was the caricature liberal there's good in everybody strait man while Booms was the polically incorrect foil. At the time the show was contraversial because Booms could really say some get em riled up stuff. I'm sure alot of that was put on. I'm guessing nationally the show didnt take off and thats why it got cancelled, but Chuckie hit a good nerve in the Ozarks and people took to him. His nightclub performances here always did well. My guess is the Meyer folks are hoping Chuck can provide some buzz, since be honest the local guys while good are not gonna " really get people talking" IE when was the last time Art Haines got anybody worked up ? I am guessing ol Chuckie is embracing Springfield since well, he doesnt have a sit-com or hanging with Jeff Foxworthy's crew. Not being mean, dude's done more in life than I have.

Again, I say credit to Ken Meyer for at least doing something after the  poor performance by his stations in the last ratings.  With all the negative words about the KSFG morning man maybe this Booms can have an impact,  I hope it's not another biased based talk show that spouts strictly one side of political issues and yes too much sports would not be good..

I should amend my last post to say in part, why he's in Springfield, your guess is as good as mine as I have no clue.

Kiley & Booms actually was a ratings success (one of the most successful shows in FSR's history) but Booms and the then-President of FSR didn't get along, so his contract was not renewed. Just clarifying.

LOL,,that's funny.  I've known Chuck for about 6 years and can tell ya
he wouldn't side with a democrat if Jesus  was running for president on
that ticket.

I hope the new gig works out for him tho.

Booms is annoying because he seems like he tries too hard to stay in character.  My guess is that this is just a short layover on his way to somewhere else.    Booms got some traction in Springfield a few years ago when he started trash talking about how he could beat Jackie Stiles one-on-one on his Fox Sports Radio show.  Springfield listeners took it hook, line and sinker.  He leveraged that into a few sold out standup shows here in Springfield.

Apparently with nothing else to do, he turned that into a local gig.  I don't see him really taking the time to get to know the community he is in.  (At least VDJ digs into local issues...how well is another topic).

I assume the DeaconMike here is the same one that calls in.

That's because they've stuck it over on 1060.
