Got an email today from Mike Edwards, saying he's hanging up his headphones after 30-years on the air.

Haven't had a chance to talk with him yet.

More to come.

When you talk to him ask him if he remembers me and another guy beating him and Dick Beggs out of their lunch money playing basketball when we were in high school:P:P:P...Mike is a great guy and he was and still is a fun guy to know and be around...His talent far exceeded this market!!!

I have heard of two Mike Edwards'.  I assume you refer to the old ranch hand, most recently at oldies/star 105.1.  I played basketball once on Mike Edwards' oldies all stars team and I was real impressed with his outside jump/set shots and his stamina for a fat guy.  He could play some B-ball and was damn good on the radio.

Mike worked for me for several years and truly did an excellent job as our morning man.  Rating wise he was fine as well.  If low ratings were part of the reason he changed...it's not his fault.  The station needs to examine what it is doing wrong... maybe a consultant from out of the market is at fault....they usually are in my book. Perhaps no promotion aside from on their own air...a mistake that many stations make.  Best of Luck Mike!!!!!!!!

Dang, Turner... I forgot about that team. Between Edwards and his son, we made more 3 pointers than the Laurie brothers. I couldn't believe how good of a shot he was.

Mike is a great radio talent.

So is he truly hanging it up or will he pop up on another signal?

I visited the KOSP web site and thought it interesting that Mike said I will miss "many" of you...must be some that he will not miss much, if at all.  That means Mike Edwards joins with Mike Roberts and John Stevens who have all left the building on East Battlefield recently along with Tom Taylor on KKLH.  I know what Tom is doing, any word on what John and Mike Roberts are up to these days.  I have worked with all four of those fellow in the past and really respect and like all of them.  I wonder what Summa Stevens will do in morning-drive, go solo or look for a new mate.

Hey Rick Masters as a former partner with Summer in the mornings...better update your resume and send them your audition.  You two did sound fine.  It would be great for you two to be together again...ha ha...I still crack myself up.  Seriously the "KLH More Music Morning Show" with Summer and Rick was good even though there was some friction among the talent.

I see where Chris (boom boom) Cannon is now partnering with Summer Stevens early mornings at KOSP.  Any observations on how they are sounding together?

I'm still wondering about the status of the ole M&M boys Mike Roberts and Mike Edwards and how about  John Stevens, any word on what they are doing these days?

Here's an interesting true story concerning John Stevens...  Back when I first hired him:

We had an opening for a "jock" and I had a stack of audition tapes and resumes on my desk. I got a phone call from Sam Burk, at that time the owner of KIRX in Kirksville.  I had known him for several years through the MBA and respected him greatly.  Well, he called saying that his nephew had applied for a job with us and was from the Chicago area.  Sam recommended him highly, saying he was a great guy, etc.  I dug out his tape and he sounded as good as or better than the others in the stack...that doubled with his Uncle's recomendation got John Stevens his job with us.  He served us well, in his own unique style for many years.  He is a good guy and I certainly wish him well in all he does.

This story proves the old adage...sometimes it's not what you know but who you know.
