Heard from a top source that Art Hains is leaving KWTO to go to work for the Chiefs. Anybody else have that on their radar??

Wow...that would be a huge loss for KWTO.  Art is a bright spot for them.

That would be quite a move - haven't heard anything about it, though.

I do know that Kendall Gammon is replacing Bob Gretz on the sideline.

If Art is going to work for the Chiefs that would be separate from the Chiefs Radio Network (A Cumulus Company) who released Gretz and hired Gammons.  Gretz tho' is still employed by the Chiefs as an Internet blogger on the teams website.  I understand that "King" Carl Peterson was not to pleased that Gretz was canned.  He has been with the franchise for almost 20 years and is a real crony for Carl and seems to have adopted some of Peterson's personality traits.  Bob  developed quit the ego after his long tenure and I think his attitude contributed to his demise.  Art Haines is a pro who could be a real asset to either the Chiefs or the Chiefs Radio Network.

I heard that same story about Art today from a pretty reliable source at the News-Leader.  It appears to me as if it's true.

Just be careful about posting rumors dealing with people's jobs. It can land them in hot water with management. Something to think about.

There are rumors that I am going back to Clear Channel. Not true! There are also rumors that I do production for another radio station in town. Not true! Let Art share the news. If it's true, it couldn't happen to a nicer, more deserving guy/chiefs fan.

Leave it to Mister Mike to find a way in this thread about one of the best broadcasters in the area, to slam one of his favorite targets, the News Leader. It only took six of his own words to do it. Very efficient Mike. Gotta warn you though, the call to Art Hains from South Korea will cost you about 13 dollars every three minutes.

Mr. Turner is right, however, I don't think Mr. Cannon meant any harm. Rumors can be cost a person their job even if they are untrue.

Besides I've heard juicer rumors lately.;) This one is small potatoes.

******************Untrue rumors DID cost me a really good job once!   I've known Art for years & years - we used to live in the same Phelps Grove neighborhood, and we'd always attend the same 'hood Christmas parties.  SUCH a talent, and his time for bigger & better things is long past due.  Whatever his future holds, I wish him the very best, and the utmost success.

Doug, it wasn't a personal dig. It was to everyone. When I was still at KJEL I was "fired" for a week because I had talked to the compeitor (90 minutes away mind you) about a job. I don't think I was ever terminated. The GM's words were "you can stay until further notice". He did ask me later in the week if I really wanted to stay. I said I had something else which was a lie. I stayed there for 3 more years until I moved elsewhere.

I wish only the best for Art. To second Doug, his time has more than come. I'll be cheering for him on the sidelines like a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader!!! I won't look as good though.

Art's staying close to home...  Sort of doing the same thing Mike Kelly did a few years ago, moving from the Mizzou flagship KMOX to the MU Athletic Department as a full-time employee.

  • University marketing specialist – Missouri State’s contract with Art Hains, long-time radio “Voice of the Bears,” has been expanded from part-time to full-time, and he will have the title of university marketing specialist. Hains, who recently resigned as a full-time employee at Meyer Communications, will continue to broadcast Bears football, Bears basketball and baseball games for Meyer Communications and KTXR, the flagship station for the Bears Radio Network. He will continue to host the long-running “Sportstalk” show on KWTO-FM from 5-7 p.m. most weeknights. Hains also will assist Missouri State on a wide variety of marketing initiatives campus-wide, including many related to new media.
