Yeah, I coudda taken him. But I think I reported him to his boss instead. As I remember, that guy didn't last much longer at the station! What a punk.
Yes, it IS the type of competition that's coming soon. Sirius is sponsoring stuff at SDC...I remember when KTTS sponsored stuff down there. I think SDC still uses plenty of local media - I see ads in different publications and I hear radio stations doing remotes from there - but they have more choices as to where to spend their ad dollars these days, as do most local, regional and national advertisers.

Back to the subject at hand...
In 1989, gas was around $1.37 when we started 96.5, then KLTQ. We did a trade with Rapid Roberts for the difference, and sold gas for 96.5 cents per gallon for one hour.
Cars were lined up down Kearney. Ended up pumping for three and a half hours.
'twas fun, and proved the impact of a tiny little 3Kw FM in Springfield....

| When we opened KOSP...I wanna say this was in 92 or 93...we did a deal with the Git N Go stores where we sold gas for 10.51 cents per gallon for 105 minutes. We did 3 of them, and would announce the location about an hour before we did the pumping. We had to hire off-duty cops to handle the traffic. Of course it made the TV news and the newspaper. GREAT promotion, but really, really expensive.
