If you were putting together a line-up of personalities that have worked in our region, what would it look like.  Here is mine: (based on a country station)  Just trying to get something happening on this board.

John Stevens (SP ?)  Mornings  Dave Richmond Middays

Roger Todd Afternoons  (my gawd -- I have drank the ktts koolaid:)

TK O Grady evenings (used to really Like his energy)

Cindy Rippee OVernights (that's is not a put down -- she is a great talent -- if she is your overnights, you have a great line-up.

News.... Morris, Shelly, The lady who does mornings in Branson.

Sports...Art Haines

I like your selections but I would never make those picks because I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.  We were indeed fortunate to have lots and lots of very talented people on our air at KT.  What made most of them good was that they truly communicated one to one with the listener.  Unfortunately this is rare today because the consultants seem to want you to just use the liner notes.  In the morning shows have recorded laugh tracks, even though many times they are not funny.

The strongest sales point for Radio in my opinion has always been "Theater of the Mind".... Sorry, but I don't hear that much anymore. It's amazing what a good copy writer along with some good sound effects, voices and music can do.  Things no other media can do...because of the Theater of the Mind.

It was Bill Ring that said "If you're too busy to go fishin', you're too busy". I once saw a picture of him in a Lander Wyoming museum. The pic was from the 1960's, taken while Bill was taking part in the "One Shot Antelope Hunt". If you're too busy to shoot an Antelope, you're too busy....

I recall working with Bill Ring and it was interesting how he would be reading a book during the music, lay it down just in time to say, "that was Tennessee Ernie Ford singing bla, bla, bla." ...then pick up his book and read while the next record played. In those days KWTO had an engineer on duty at all times actually running the board, so the jock really didn't have much to do.  Bill was a good guy, well liked by all. At the same era there was Fred Lynn, Dan Vaughan, Jim Kendrick and others.  By the way I saw Les Swykard yesterday, in the 60's he was a big name on KICK and went on to be a big time record producer...lives in Miami FL now.  His son was named the Policeman of the Year yesterday at the SE Rotary Club's annual recognition ceremony.

I think that Woody and Janet made a great morning show team, I also liked Gary Hightower and Don Kellogg as 2nd team and honorabe mention morning men.   Midays might be Mitch Baker, Cindy Rippe, Alex Stone, Summer Stevens and Barefoot Bob or Jerry Higley.  Afternoon; Chuck Riley, John Stevens, Jay Stevens & Spankmiester.  Nightime;  Adam West, Rick Masters, Kevin Barton, Diane Davis, Steve O, Page Miller.  Program Directors Don Paul and Roger Piper.  News has to be Morris James, Dan Shelly, Don Louzader, Tom Wahl, Barry Johnson, & Fred Lynn.  Sports; Art Haines, Nick Ruzzo and Dan O'Day.  They would make up my All Springfield lineup with 2nd team and honorable mentions.  The at the top, GM's Curt Brown, Dan Vaughn and Rex Hansen.

I agree with everything but Rex Hanson. He and Phillips silenced many voices forever at KT for Journal. A thorn to both of them.

For news, go back in the day to Dan Shelly, Dave Baldwin, Karen Libby, Dave Keiser, Chris Sifford and myself.  I thought when Ron Davis called us the local "brat pack" of news in a column we had done something to hit our stride.  We didn't lose a single story - a great team effort - and constantly watched the others in the market do "followups" the next day.  We worked very hard - and played hard too - but that group left it's mark and I'm not sure it will ever be duplicated.  Not to take anything away from the current market and those working everyday to provide news coverage - but a lot has changed since then, including ownership and budgets.

By the way, for those that didn't know (and I failed to mention earlier) that was the KTTS newsroom under the watchful eye and guidance of Mr. Brown, our GM.

Good call on both posts Monte, and don't forget the walk/run in memory of Cliff next weekend.
