| Well, what do you think about Imus being fired from MSNBC and "put on hold" on his Radio show? I think he was out of bounds using the language he did and should be punished for sure. He has been doing this sort of thing for years however. Also the Rap (Hip Hop) groups who use even worse language should be banned from the airways in my opinion. Seems to be a terrible double standard at work here. Howard Stern got away with trash for years and several of the morning shows do the same on the national level. Let's clean up the airways!! What do you think?

You're absolutely right. The double standard that's on display is just indicative of American society right now, I'm afraid.

Imus has a 30+ year history of trash-talk. Like Stern, that's his schtick. What he said on his show was awful, for sure, and he should be reprimanded. But here's some additional thoughts on the matter:
1. The Rutgers Rugby team was exonerated by a judge this week. He proclaimed them "innocent"...not "not guilty" - but "innocent". During the past year, people like "Rev." Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were VERY quick to condemn the rugby players, and raise money for the "victim". The assumed guilt of the rugby players before they knew the facts. Do you think Sharpton & Jackson are gonna apologize to the players for their comments? Not a chance.
2. Imus has raised millions and millions of dollars for his children's charities - in fact, his 2-week suspension doesn't start until Monday so his radio-thon can go on as planned. HIs work with underpriveledged kids and the SIDS Foundation is tremendous. Obviously, this work shows the true side of Don Imus...and it's being overlooked by nearly every person who wants him crucified.
3. Imus' comments were nothing that any of the people he offended hadn't heard before - hundreds of times on television and radio, and in song lyrics. The ONLY reason they were "offended" this time was because it was a white guy talking on a white guy radio show.
There are a LOT of people who are calling for Imus to be blown off the face of the planet because he's a racist. The truth is...the true racists aren't Imus, but the people who want him crucified. They play the race card at every opportunity, and it's usually to extend their own personal agenda.
The advertisers who pulled off the Imus show are spineless. Knee-jerk reaction. I will do my best to NOT buy P&G products or shop at Staples.
My comment to the Imus pursuers - is the same comment I'd make to anyone who doesn't care for a particular radio program. TURN THE DAMN KNOB. Radio, but terrestial and satellite, is a CHOICE. If you don't like Imus' comments, pick a different station!
I was never an Imus fan before this week, but I feel bad for the guy. He did wrong, he apologized (over and over and over)...and that should be the end of it.

And now that WFAN/W1 has canned Imus, one wonders what the stations carrying him will do..

| A side note...Charlie McCord is Imus's newsman and has been for years. He is originally from Springfield, I worked with him when he was fresh out of college in the 60's at KWTO. I recall the two of us were covering the election one year from the Greene county courthouse. Years later, after going to work for Imus, he came back to town and visited me at KT. He had just bought some land near Bull Shoals Lake and planned to retire there. I wonder if now may be the time?

I am so saddened by all of this, I'm almost speechless.
The witch hunt is stunning.
Who's next?

Any initial thoughts as to what Meyer is going to do on Jock 98.7?
Likewise, being a huge Imus fan over the years, I am absolutely stunned. I just don't know what to say. I am an Imus fan to the point that I have stayed extra nights in Springfield just to listen to him on the way back to Arkansas.

In my mind there is no question that the "witch hunters" aka Sharpton & Jackson, should now go full force to clear the air of the hip-hop and rap stuff. I saw where over 600 songs have the word "ho" in them. I always thought that a ho was a hoe, used in the garden (ha) or something Santa Claus said a lot... ho, ho, ho, ho.
Seriously, the rap people have done far more to hurt the image of women than any recent other group. As long as we are firing folks...they should be next.

I have to agree. The problem, as Jason Whitlock correctly reports in the Kansas City Star, is that there is no publicity and, therefore, no money in that fight.

I thought Whitlock's column was brilliant.

re: Imus
I don"t enjoy seeing anyone loose their job, however, in this case I'm happy to see Imus go. I feel he should have been canned years ago. Not particularly for his recent remarks that cost him his job. I feel he was only repeating some of the garbage heard every day from the black community.
Having to produce his show for several months, on the local affiliate, and having to listen to the vulgarities spewed out day after day by him and his crew was nothing short of disgust. Anybody who ever worked in radio knows that just a few years ago that wouldn't have been tolerated by the FCC. He,the network, and the local station would have faced stiff fines and could have possibly lost their license. Just a few years ago the public outcry against the show and station carrying his show would have been great.
In these days of "anything goes" It's refreshing to see one of the offenders go. One down and many more to go.

The above comments are the reason that every radio comes equipped with buttons. That's the beauty of radio - if you don't like what you hear, change the station! My gripe is with the people who try to inflict their own level of "what's right & what's wrong" on the rest of society. Let ME make the choice as to what I want to hear.
Granted, there needs to be some control - please no pornography on the public airwaves....but Don Imus made a career out of outlandish comments and his show was one big politically incorrect comment after another. Anyone who listened to the show should have known what to expect. It's not like he popped off his comments unexpectedly...he had said MUCH worse in years passed.
Imus had set a "standard" on his show - if you're in the public limelight, then you are potential fodder for his show. Plain and simple, he was the target of a racist witch hunt, and it's a tragedy that more free thinking has been kicked off the air.

Doug...are you sure your last part shouldn't have read:
"it's a tragedy that more free thinking will be kicked off the air."
Imus isn't the end of this...we're going to go from this to trying to take certain political views off the air.
