So do you like anyone more successful than you? I am sure your report will be the subject of several emergency "on-air" meetings on Monday Morning.

R-E-S-P-E-C-t...If I hated everyone more successful than me, I would be consumed with it. I have lots of respect for their accomplishments, certainly much more than me, heck, I'm lucky to have remained employed in the business for as long as I have (I'm average at best). I know they (miss lovie duvie and Tesh) are geared more for lady listeners...they are absolutely not what I like to listen too and I personally see nothing too funny in Bob and Tom, must be an acquired taste and that excessive canned laugh track stuff verges on ridiculous. I just don't like syndicated programming.
As for Monday meetings, I know that management could give a rats ass what I think, simply my humble observations. I do think that corporate radio programming is lackluster and there is not many innovative ideas out there anymore...maybe someone should research that or hold a focus group.

| Its not so much hatred for Bob and Tom as much as it is a wish US 97 had a LOCAL morning show. A syndicated morning show to me is a radio stations way of saying 1. we don't think there is any good local talent 2. We are too cheap to invest in local talent 3. Most of our audience are cornfed rubes who probably would'nt know the difference as long as somebody mentions titties and NASCAR. 4. Were just too bleeping lazy. I like that 70's syndicated show 105.1 does on Sunday nights, House of Hair is good show. A syndicated show should be a compliment to a station, a change of pace, something nice on the weekend but not a substitute, at least that is what I think the general mood of the board is and how I feel.

I agree with your thoughts on syndicated radio...boooo! I believe in local, live, 24/7.
A person doing liners only or a show fed from another city just can't grasp the moment of what is happening locally. It all gets down to SUPER SERVE THE LISTENER... anything less and you are shooting yourself in the foot. Unfortunately today Radio seems to be hitting their foot on a regular basis.

Great point! It is my general mood too. My question is does this board reflect what the listeners want or do they tune in to listen to be entertained. We are all sick, or we would not be in this business -- we are even sicker, because we eat, breath, and love this business.
My concern is that to many radio people have an idea of what they want to listen to so they think every radio station should be just like that. Curt wants news -- live and local. There are people who don't want news. Everybody wants local -- there are people who don't care, they just want to be entertained. I thought US 97 made a mistake when it pulled off Alice Cooper evenings. Cooper was providing something that no other station in the market could offer -- and his music knowledge and stories were a lot more interesting than your average jock playing the music.
Satellite programing is a tool and if you package it right and it fits what you are trying to do with your station -- it makes sense. If you rely on it to BE your station, it doesn't.
Great discussion - hopes it continues.

Just saw new Springfield ratings, gains for KSPW,KOSP,KZRQ,KTXR and KWTO FM.
KTXR now top Meyer station, good job Jamie. Remember some of the same people that said new Jove song format wouldn't work also said the same thing about all Christmas music a few years back, and also the so called "Jack" type formats..
Notice news/talk formats of KSGF and KWTO AM took big drops., .

What ratings are you looking at? KWTO-AM only went down .6...there's at least five stations that fell more than that. That's not that big a drop.

KSGF took the largest drop,, all news talk seemed to drop some..
Notice 107.7 in Stockton made Springfield ratings. They are owned by Cumulas.Did they raise power or move transmitter closer to Springfield? Cumulas is not known to purchase single small market stations
Maybe Al Germond can tell us something about that.

It's interesting that KOMG (Bass Country) took a drop, while KRWP drew a 1.5, considering their signal is marginal in the metro. Kinda shows you where the diaries dropped, doesn't it?
==============================
Cumulus purchased KRWP (then KRLK 107.7) from Galen Gilbert five years ago.
At the time, they were going to downgrade it back to a class A, so they could move one of their Topeka stations in KC. Then, Cumulus bought the Susquehanna properties, and the Topeka deal wasn't necessary.
So, the downgrade never happened. KRWP remains a C3, with a tower about 10 miles south of Stockton. Before Bass Country came along, they used to show up regularly in the Springfield book, because they were the only Classic Country station around.
KRWP runs Jones (now Dial Global)'s Classic Country satellite format. Lance Beamer is the manager up there, and Ed & Kathy Koca from Greenfield are the main local on-air talent. Some will remember them from the days of KRFG (Radio Free Greenfield).
I've always been proud of that signal. We didn't do anything special when we built it, but it's a good location.

| With KSGF taking the biggest drop in listeners, perhaps its PD should spend more time in that position and less as a muckraker. Last edited on Wed Aug 13th, 2008 01:01 pm by 1340-1971

| The bump for KTXR should show that different CAN be good. The clones lose.

I posted on my blog about the ratings and mentioned that KSGF took the biggest fall of all the radio stations. This morning I find a comment that says "I know you do a lot with KWTO- what was their turn out?"
Well, I've been on there twice all year. (Edit: technically, I guess three...I was on once as a guest, one as a guest host and calling in from Republican HQ on election night.) Not exactly what you would call "a lot". Anyway, I thought there was something fishy about the comment so I checked the IP address.
It tracked to Journal Broadcast Group according to ARIN WhoIS.

When ever the entire book comes in I would like to see the top 5 in:
TSA, 12+ Cume. i.e. the total # of different listeners your station has for a week over the entire SW MO area.

| Does the Mahaffey Group own or operate any properties in Springfield? I know there headquarters are in Springfield, but an unfamiliar with the location of their station locations.
