You know the drill. Don't post copyrighted material. Just post a link to it.
For instance, here is a link to the latest Springfield Aribtron ratings.
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/DetailsPage.aspx?MID=246&RY=2006&RQ=4&MP=0&OTHER=2&MN=Springfield&MS=MO&MR=142&12P=307500&UP=1/30/2007&SU=S&BPER=&HPER=&OPER=&NSD=&CE=0
Any thoughts?

The only surprise I saw in the 12+ ratings was the surprising strength of KSGF A/F. Does this translater into the demo breakdowns?
Anybody got any information on the 18-34? Or even 18+?
And, do you think KSGF's strength is due to being on FM? Normally, in a market with more than one News/Talk, the station that has Rush is the leader. KSGF does have Boortz, Hannity, Levin et al.
And, they have Laura Ingraham, which is the most fun talk show on the radio. Not that I agree with everything she says, but from a production standpoint, it's really fun radio. They handle soundbites and production elements better than any other show.

Jericho claims all credit for any ratings improvements at KSGF. This flies in the face of reality. He in on the air 3 hours (6 - 9 AM weekdays) per day (less than 12% of total on air time) The station is owned by Journal Broadcasting, based in Milwaukee. ALL programming decisions flow from them.
KSGF has some strong syndicated talk programming, but does some pretty odd things with (to?) it. Only the 1st two hours of Laura Ingraham? The disappearance of Hugh Hewitt. They continue to broadcast O'Reilly, who draws no audience. One might suppose that they set up their schedule with a dart board.
I imagine that Rush will beat them for his time slot, but the station that airs him is mired with too much amateur-level local talk (info-mercial-type) programming. It's like they don't take their competition seriously.
I, for one, would like to see Jericho's time-wasting slot eliminated, and be replaced with another good syndicated show.Last edited on Tue Feb 13th, 2007 07:38 pm by codger

KWTO pluses - Rush. Big Signal. Good dial position. Long history. Local news inserts with RJ. Paul Harvey. Local voices.
KSGF pluses - Simulcast. FM sound good. Syndicated line-up is good. Boortz, Ingraham, Hannity, Levin. Local news inserts with KTTS voices. Fox News.
-----------------
KWTO minuses - Poor audio quality. ABC News. Infomercials. "Small-town" presentation. Overall station presentation has No sense of humor.
KSGF minuses- Controversial morning host. Not enough local voices. Again, overall programming has no sense of humor.
--------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion - from a competitive viewpoint, the two stations seem to balance each other out. So, with that in mind, why are KSGF's number higher. Is it just the FM thing?

I just visited KSGF's site and reviewed their programming schedule. What a mish-mosh. An hour of Laura here, an hour of Savage there, etc. A real shotgun effect.
I must explain that I spent many years in the Chicago metro market. What a difference a little professionalism makes!
Both KSGF and KWTO would be blown to oblivion in that market. They're both sloppy, unreliable (can you say "dead air"?) and amateurish. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I respect broadcast efforts that are done with polish and flair.
By the way:
KSGF's FM transmitter died during the ice storm. Jercho brodcast on the 5,000W AM side. He was not on the air 35 out of a possible 48 as he claims. He went home several times, while his audience sat freezing in the dark, wondering what was happening. He's no hero. What he does, he does for his own self-aggrandizement.
A properly managed station with a decent signal could easily own the news/talk market in Springfield. The current competition is second rate at best.

| Look for KSGF to increase its ratings lead over KWTO. Just when you think KWTO morning show could not get any........ Well let just say if it was not for Rush they would have a 0.7 rating.
