I was driving back from Kansas City Sunday night around 1:00 AM and tried to tune in the AM/FM combo there in Butler. Neither one of the stations were on-air... do they sign off late at night, or are they off the air??

KMAM is a daytimer - 92.1 KMOE signs off each night at Midnight.  Both the AM & the FM sign back on at 5AM daily according to their website - 921kmoe.com.

Wow, an FM that signs off at midnight!  Suppose they have a staffer there until then?  You mean they don't abandon their site to automation and alarms?

I need some coffee!

Check their coverage maps.  Not too many listeners in the country surrounding Butler.  Many stations in outstate Missouri follow the same broadcast pattern.  Many have not opted for flea power (nighttime) on their AM side.  Many are just Mom and Pop operations.  However, they do serve a purpose to a very loyal local audience.

I drove to KC on Thursday evening and got a chance to listen to the station. Sounds like a pretty good operation!
