She was a sister of two legendary college football coaches: Don and Fred Faurot.
Don Faurot you have all heard about - coached at Kirksville Teachers College and University of Missouri, member of the College Football Hall of Fame, inventor of the split-T formation, etc., etc.
But Fred? Maybe in the shadow of his brother's coaching career, the little-known brother ended up coaching Murray State (KY) to a tie at the 1949 Tangerine Bowl and two OVC championships, eventually returning to Columbia where both he and his wife were active sports participants. Fred was a longtime statistician at MU football games.
I personally knew both of them - both were gracious gentlemen.

I knew Sam Burk, in fact he was John Stevens (KTTS DJ of the 80s & 90s) uncle. In fact the main reason I hired John was a call I got from Sam after John had sent me a tape and resume, Sam assured me that John was a good guy.
Also, the first girl friend of mine was Aileen Farout, Coach Don's middle daughter. We were in early HS in Columbia.
Sorry to hear of Vera's passing.

| Last of the generation of Faurot brothers and sisters. Reading the obituary it appears that she was involved in every kind of civic organization and cause.
