| Hi to all...Hate to be the bearer of possible bad news but the latest GFs model runs have really been forecasting a very strong storm system somewhere in the midwest during this period in January....I read this as us being in the 'WARM" sector with highs into the 60's and dewpoints in the upper 50's to low 60's....Sufficient shear and moisture would appear to be present for severe thunderstorms...However if the model solutions change (and they should somewhat)...we could possibly have mixed or winter precipitation...The bottom line is watch the forecasts carefully this next week and stay tuned!!!...Jim

| Looks like things are really coming together for a rain/severe event Monday into Tuesday....Latest model runs are showing lots of moisture and shear to work with...We could have severe thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes across much of of Missouri and Arkansas late Monday thru Tuesday...

Of course, I can't forget that one year ago was when the January ice storm occured.
I'd much rather deal with thunderstorms!

Hey Vortexx!!!!
We had a HUGE net on the 146.970 machine Monday night. About 530pm , AC0BN ("Chewy") called "tornado on the ground", south of Monett. I knew it was going to be a long night.
We are finding out that there are a large number of the general public that now monitor our repeater during storms.
We continued until the main squall passed about 330am. Several continued to listen to the 91 machine after that, as it moved your way.
What a night!

I know...It was a HUGE mess here too....I was "ON THE AIR" from 1pm Monday till 5am Tuesday with the 145.49 regional SKYWARN net...Steve KA0SPM was running the damage/information net on the 146.91...As far as the forecast is concerned...Unlike my PROFESSIONAL meteorological buddies like Ron, Kevin and the guys at the NWS...I can go out on a limb a week out on a basically "CLOSED" blog and pass out what I see...I get accused of "CRYING WOLF" from time to time but I really need to make sure that the info (right or wrong) is out there for the storm spotters, Emergency MGT folks and you broadcast types...I just want everyone to check the WX info themselves and get a rudamentary understanding of how the long range forecasts work so that they can be able to make their own informed decisions....The models were really consistant on the strength and track of the synoptic storm system for about 10 days....The forecast model raw data, data sets and formulas improve exponentially with the use of faster computers and better, more specific observations... Art, you and myself are real "WEATHER NERDS" ...I'm glad that Kevin Lighty from KSPR has joined the mix here on the blog....It looks like an interesting spring....Jim

I really need to meet Kevin Lighty. I've got a feeling we might be fast friends.
Monday night, there was so much stuff on the radar screen that I ended up using VIL mode to try and get a handle on where the heaviest stuff was.
It was wild. Reminded me of the April storm a few years back. Cell after cell into the overnight. I finally went home from KSWM about 3am, only to be awaked at 630am by the "freight train" sound overhead.
Spring seems early!

There were alot of cuplets out there....It looked like someone had built a "TORNADO FACTORY" near Jay Oklahoma and a new one was coming off the assembly line every 15-45 minutes....As far as Kevin is concerned...I talked with him briefly over the phone and he seems to be a really nice guy....He is also a heck of a forecaster....He's a HAM too....He's got a "9 LAND" call of some type....Spring seems like it's closer every day....Over on the STORMTRACK blog the guys and gals are counting the days until severe season....I'm not...I get "old and cranky" during storm season...

Hey Art. Tuesday morning a friend of mine found postcards from Monett in her yard in Springfield. She lives 1block south of Grand and just east of Jefferson.
Airmail I suppose.

| Hey everyone, as you were all talking about being on skywarn, I must add that I am also a ham myself, KC9BVA and wish that I was able to be on there during the storms myself, but they tend to keep me busy at the station haha!

| Kevin....You need the station to give you $200 bucks and have your engineers put in a 2 meter radio on the weather set....You help SKYWARN and help "defend" us just by being there...Hopefully I'll see you at SKYWARN spotter training in Februrary...Jim

Congrats to KY3 and KSPR...both did an excellent job I thought...as for the "others", well.... Of course KTTS did their usual fine job and it was good that Clear Chan carried KY's stuff live. It was a scary night...thanks guys from all the public out there!
Good coverage like that will build station trust better than all the ads you could ever run in various media.

Thanks. Yea I could bring in my 2 meter, just need to get them to rig an antenna for me on our tower. That would be sweet!
I did a blog post on all 62 tornado warnings if anyone is interested. http://www.kspr.com/weather/blog
