I wonder if Vortexx puts any credence in our beloved ground hog as a prognosticator of the weather?  I personally don't believe in Puxsutawney Phil to predict the weather for the hole country, in fact while I worked in the Ozarks I made annual contact with Grover the groundhog from Galena for the local spring/winter prediction.  He seemed to be much more accurate, however, it was later speculated that Grover wasn't really a groundhog but rather that damn ferret that used  to be a commercial spokesman for a beer (can't  recall if it was Miller or Bud).

Lidsay Shannon, host of The KC Blues Show on 101 The Fox and owner of BB's Lawnside Bar B-Q is hosting his annual Groundhog Day party, parade and blues review featuring Blind Puxsutawney Phil to preform and forecast the winter/spring thang in K.C.  The great thing about Blind Puxsutawney Phil is that he NEVER sees his shadow..  Early spring anyone?

Groundhog Days lovers should visit puxsutawneyphil.com and check out the official souvenir catalog...it is almost  as good as the redriderleglamp.com shop for stuff from The Christmas Story.  I bought a leg lamp last year and love it.

Dan's just cool! Like a cool grandpa. He's a legend with some great stories, a good sense of humor, and still has a good set of pipes.

Dan was the GM at KGBX when I worked there in 76/77 while the station was still on Boonville and AM and during the sell from the News-Leader to Stauffer Communications.  If I recall correctly, while I was there, Dan departed KGBX and took over the helm at KWTO (when it was still on S. Campbell) with Len Heron  taking his place at KGBX.

Dan came to Springfield in July 1960 with KWTO for Ralph Foster.  I met him 1 year later when I started at KWTO.  Dan worked for me twice at KTTS, both times in sales. He also ran a station in Waynesville and the new station that was owned by an engineer and studios were out east on Kearney, in a strip center on the north side of the road. He's a great friend and still is to this day.

I recall all those names but never met Mike Crowder or Hugh Mattlock.  I worked with Barry Bryant, the wonderful Dudley Morris, Jerry Higley was one of my favorites and Chuck Riley.  Chuck and I became close friends and we kept in touch through his Joplin and Memphis days...I was so sad to hear of his untimely death in the mid-80's car crash.  I always greatly admired his talent and everything he overcame with is severe handicap.  Chuck loved my children and was a great friend to them when they were little, when he came to visit he always brought them a gift.  I have some great Chuck Riley stories and I know XGM does too.  I miss that little guy with the big voice and great big heart.
