The NWS/NOAA says that the area from Southeast KS through Southwest MO through Southcentral MO and through Central MO and EastCentral MO and Southeast MO to Southwest IL up to Western IL is under a
Flash Flood Watch from Saturday afternoon/night through Sunday morning/midday.
Conditions are: the rain, and sleet and ice and snow, which has fallen over the coverage area for the Springfield MO and STL offices of the NWS have resulted in near saturation or saturation of the ground. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible, even expected in portions of the forecast region. Thunderstorms could and would produce locally heavy rains and cause flash flooding tonight and Sunday.
It reads ominous - it sounds like the flash flooding possibilities are there.
I still recall the sudden night-time flash flooding in Franklin and Jefferson Counties in MO a few years ago which caught many people off-guard, especially in UNION MO. How prepared are officials and YOU in your area? Are you going to mention this in your on-air weather presentations?
I am not prepared although my geographic location assures high drain-off of biblical magnitude. The radar sig. this morning looks eerie with copious amounts of moisture from the deep south setting up and snaking over our region for a stay. I'll tune around the sgf market for hints of things to come.
