From AllAccess...
ZIMMER Sports KZYM-A (ESPN RADIO 1230 THE FAN)/JOPLIN, MO will flip to Talk on AUGUST 3rd, with a mix of local elements and syndicated talk like DAVE RAMSEY, TALK RADIO NETWORK's LAURA INGRAHAM, and WESTWOOD ONE's DENNIS MILLER.
The station's programming will complement sister Talk KZRG-A in the market.
This certainly leaves a hole for an all sports format. Any takers??

That is sure a surprise, maybe of their FM stations will go sports, I know it wouldn't be KSYN or KIXQ.
Of course I wouldn't be surprised if one of former FFD stations owned now by American Media Gene Bicknel would go sports..
KSEK 1340 Pittsburg is ESPN sports but not that good of signal here in Joplin and nothing at night.
Of course if someone would buy the silent WMBH 1560, might be a possibility for not that good of signal. We will wait and see what happens

No, Laura Ingram will probably be on during the day,I wish one of the stations would pick up Jim Bohannon, have to listen on KGGF 690 or KWTO 560.
Maybe KZRG going to more local talk in afternoons.
Where did you get this info?

ESPN would probably go to one of Gene Bickels stations, probably FM. I don't think KDMO 1490 would go ESPN, they a smaller company seem to do well especially programing to Carthage.
I can't see KQYX giving up talk, but maybe they could move talk to KKOW 860 A 10KW station and put ESPN on KQYX ,Look what Zimmer has done to them however since they put KZRG on the air. They got Limbaugh, Beck, Coast to coast, Fox News, away from KQYX and now Levin. Don't know how they were able to keep Hanity. Zimmer would probably not want M Savage.
With 2 stations they would really take control of the Joplin talk market
I have no contacts with either company, just a listener.

Since I'm no longer employed in Joplin, I feel a little more free to discuss the situation.
Zimmer seems determined to take over the AM Talk market in town. It seems that Zimmer's owners are talk fans, and want it all. They've been using their clout and influence to get all the good shows away from KQYX for several years now.
ESPN Radio, while it has a small audience, probably will go away.
AMI probably won't make any major changes. They're focusing on their FM's.
I can't blame Zimmer for their decisions. If I could get all the marbles in my basket, I'd do the same. But, if AMI decided to take one of their FM's to talk, they might be to get some of the 'first tier' shows back, but in reality, who cares? Their music FM's have higher ratings. Why mess with it?

I don't think FM talk works in small markets. It's never going to do as well as a music station. Yeah, in a large market. But, Springfields N/T doesn't score that well and is never very dependable. If you want to do News/Talk radio its more than just putting in a satellite and tuning in some receivers. It's the imaging, the news talent, the local talk talent...you have to have some local flavor to make it work.

Of course in Springfield it is KSGF AM/FM ,seems to do better than KWTO AM with talk format.
