I remember visiting Joplin as a teenager and seeing the WMBH studio in the Frisco bldg downtown. The Frisco is now a senior citizen apartment complex..
KSWM 1230 original call had just gone on the air., that was also the first call of CH 12 when it went on the air in 1954.
What a shame to lose the WMBH call on 1450 on the air since 1927.I am glad to see it still on the air on 1560. Don't know how the urban format will work out in this market. Ratings will be out next month.
Another trivia question who were the owners of CH 7 TV when it went on the air in late 1953?

ha---I suspect you know the answer....Joplin Globe and KOAM Radio shared ownership.....so is ironic that KOAM radio (now kkow) my son's station gets news from the tv station and shares in weather spotting...fyi, koamradio/kkow turns 70 this fall.
(kfsb 1310 once thought of starting a tv station...a kansas city tv station sent a remote truck down to the area to telecast kfsb's country music weekly show.)

| I'm not saying it will, or even should happen, but would it be possible for 1560 to go back to the 10kw directional daytime signal it once had?

I am not sure but I think their old 10kw transmitter got burned up when they had the fire several years back..Also they have taken the other 2 towers down..Another problem thy had nulls on I-44 protecting Springfield on 1550 and Pryor OK on 1570.
They could probably increase their night coverage some by going directional and 250 watts, 9 watts non directional at night is not much. Don't know what their financial situation is.

| Well here's another change. Looks like KZRG will start carrying Fox News Radio on the 20th of August. I wonder if Community Radio will continue to carry FNR on their stations or if they'll pick up ABC's Radio News since KZRG is dropping them in order to carry FNR. Fox News will be a good fit. Since I moved to Joplin, I've been surprised by KZRG's progress. Their programming and automation is much tighter.
When I was in New York, WGY chose the move to Fox News which definitely helped secure a younger demo.

| Art, are both transmitters 1450 and 1560 located at the same place?

| Wonder if Dale Forbis has left KZRG, or is just vacationing. He has been job hunting. I also wonder if Fox will affect the amount of Local news they do.

Don't know what's happening with Forbis, but Franzman is vacationing in Connecticut and Franzman suggested that Forbis should go with him up there and Forbis said something like "Yeah I should" or something like that. So Mark Kinsley and Thom Hoglan have been holding down the fort on both the morning and afternoon talk shows. And I've noticed that Hoglan is doing a local newscast at noon and their carrying Neal Cavuto's business report. Plus they've already replaced Laura Ingraham with John Gibson in the 6 to 9 P. M. time slot.
I'd like to see KZRG or KQYX pick up Jim Bohannon in that 9 to Midnight slot instead of carrying a show recorded from earlier in the day.

Right now, 1450 is on the tower on Monroe Street, and 1560 is on the tower on 20th street.
But, CR has a construction permit to move 1450 over to 20th street. We'll have to build a diplexer to put 1450 and 1560 on the same stick, but that's the plan.

I would like also KZRG to put Jim Bohannon on at 9pm. Right now have to listen to KGGF 690 or KWTO 560.

I understand that Franzman is on vacation and will be back later this week.
Forbis is said to have left, for a job in Florida. KZRG claims they will enhance their attention to local news; I hope that proves to be true.

| I didn't know that Forbis had left for Florida, but did know that Franzman is on vacation. Figured that he would be back on Monday, but I bet that Kinsley will be happy that Franzman will be back this week. But that explains why Forbis wasn't doing either the morning or afternoon local talk show. Last edited on Wed Aug 1st, 2007 10:49 am by Micheal Dickens

| Listening to the Cards---have not heard one station ID all night...I know Zimmer does not care, but isn't that against FCC regs?

Thats true about many stations missing IDs..Board op is probably monitoring several of their stations at one time. Thats typical of modern day radio. Some even missing paid for adds. That is a serious thing.
F C C probably knows ii is happening but unless reported does nothing.
By the way Jackson I know you have trouble hearing KZYM after sunset at your location. You may be aware they also carry KZYM on an HD channel of KSYN 92,5 FM.
You need to buy an HD Radio to hear them. Don't know whose selling them, still expensive.
