Ozzymandias speaks: Since Westwood One recently revived NBC Radio News and Meet the Press, do you think they could bring back Monitor, the weekend news and entertainment show of the 50's and 60s, for distribution to smaller and rural markets. From what I've read, on the Monitor Tribute Site, the show was cancelled against the wishes of rural and small market station which it was a boon to. NBC lost money in major markets because they preferred to have live DJs and other things.
With the glut of talk AMs, maybe a new version of Monitor would work. Granted you have to work against, as Art brought up in another thread, talk radio's lack of humor or aversion to entertaining content.
Westwood has several of the big NBC News names in their stable (Tim Russert and Brian Williams), add to it from the NBC/MSNBC stable to keep the branding intact (Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry, Stone Phillips, Keith Oberman, Conan O'Brian and Carson Daily).

I'm with you. When Monitor was on the air back in the 50's and 60's, I never liked it. I was in the wrong demographic. But, now, I think it's perfectly positioned for all those aging boomers.
I think there's money to be made in weekend radio (just look at Kim Komando), and "Monitor" would be perfect. Just don't forget the "Monitor Beacon!"

Ozzymandias speaks: I feel many of the shows distributed for the weekend are boring (granted I'm not a talk radio fan in the first place) or sports related. I'm sure lot of people are working around the house or on a car trip, they need something (especially in the tiny rural markets). I know from that there is an audience on Saturday and Sunday for music. If talk provided something that could provide news and entertainment to the people who are interested in something besides right-wing propaganda or financial talk.
Art, tool around that site I linked to. The beacon is on there. I have a copy on my desktop at home.
