In just a couple of weeks my life is going to change dramatically.
It's been enjoyable contributing to this board, but I truly believe I've said it all over the last year and a half since I retired from the industry.
I'm a "has been" in the radio profession. My day has "come and gone" and in reality, nobody really wants my advice or my phone would be ringing.
Radio is going to survive without me.
The truth is that I'm turning radio off more than I'm listening to it. I have Siruis on my satellite tv, the internet, and an mp3 player.
Every now and then I dial in to KOMC-FM in Branson at the top of the hour to hear a complete CBS news update. My time listening to those has even shrunk.
Adios and keep up the fight if you think it's right!

Boy, I know you way you feel. There are times I feel like an absolutely obsolete piece of equipment. There are plenty of times when I feel like I have something to contribute, but nobody wants to listen. I'm sure there are a bunch of us that feel that way.
If no one else, I certainly appreciate your input, and your perspective on issues, especially news.

| Morris....What in the hell are you thinking???...You have been in the industry over 40 years.....Corporate goals and investor return run the business now....If I had the cash I'd get us one of them there newfangled radio thingies and we could have some fun...I thought about getting a FM-LP license and just serving the "YUPPIE" types downtown...we could interview the winos and do a real "Man On the Street"...We could buy the old KICK building at 610 W College...Fumigate to get the Cat/Dog smell outta it and put in offices for XGM and you...The play list could be whatever you guys wanted...Music, News, OPEN MIKE DEAD AIR!!!...When I get in a funk I go to old WLS/CKLW/KAAY air checks and it brings back the days of my youth....You retired the same way that I did (KICKING AND SCREAMING)...Find something fun to do...Get back into radio....Start over again at KTXR....OOPS Me bad...Hee Hee....

Divergent viewpoints are what makes this place tick. Stick around Morris - you're not a washup, and your contributions help make this place what it is.

Could be it would be fun to see some of the old pro's in action? Art if we had some good "oldies" could you post the picture of the week? Just think of the old sportcoats with K-Y 3 on the suit. Or some of the RED WHITE AND BLUE ranchhand photo's. And some stars with the DJ's. What do you think?

Morris, I just read your posting for the first time. Don't stop being involved on the discussion board. You are a part of the Springfield radio family even though you are not an active member. You made many friends ,I among them, through your involvment in the radio profession. Being an old radio horse that has been put to pasture I can relate to your feelings. There are times when I miss the microphone, music, and listeners. I, however have kept busy since my retirement a year and a half ago. I am still involved with the public. I help provide a service for folks who need transportation to and from doctor appointments as well as other needs through Medi Transit of Springfield.. I find that I can still enjoy meeting people and appreciate being needed. My first love was radio. Those days are gone. Even the passion has subsided. I don't like what I hear now. As a result I hardly listen to radio any more. I've learned to count my blessings and move on. I will always be grateful to God for blessing me with the passion for radio and providing outlets for those passions. Getting to do , for 35 years, what I loved was indeed a blessing, however there are many more blessings in my life other than radio. Firstly, my family, keeping up with my grandkids, singing in a family Gospel quartet, learning to play the guitar at my advanced age and a hundred other things. There is life after radio. A good life full of great memories, including memories of you my friend. Hang in there morris and keep connected with us. Rabbit

I will resume posting only from time to time. I'm a proud new daddy of a little Guatemalan girl and my retirement from the industry allows me to be spend lots of time with her. It will be interesting parenting a 14-year-old and her.
I appreciate the kind comments from the above folks.

Cool, Mo. Like to sit down with you over a cup of Guatemalian coffee and hear how you did it.
