Enter Kickin Country 102.3. Country returns to the FM dial in Waynesville as Goodradio.TV keeps Fox Talk on AM and launches a 24-hour Country format leaving the heritage KJPW calls on AM-only.

KJPW 1390 launched in 1962 as Waynesville's first Commercial radio station. Their now-sister station launched that same year, KFBD (then at 97.7). KJPW-FM hit the air in 1968. At some point the FM calls were switched to KYSD as a Beautiful Music station. In the early 80s, 102.3 became KJPW again as "KJ Country". After being purchased by the Shepherd Group, the AM became a full-fledged talker and the FM switched to Adult Contempoary. The AC format moved to KFBD-KOZQ once purchased.

Best of luck!!!

Their carrying Jones Radio on KIIK so we'll see how it goes.  It's a pity though that they built a new studio just to run the station on the bird.

Becoming a Jones affiliate would be a big change from the Shepherd philosophy. Perhaps more Good Radio stations will become Jones affiliates in the next year. If they need a large staff for news and sports, I don't see an
advantage to running Satellite. Unless they plan to cut some of the local News
and sports coverage.

I would honestly rather hear Shepherd than Jones. Jones has a way of cheapening a radio station's sound. The Classic Rock format was the worst I had ever heard. Their Smooth Jazz format on the other hand is not too shabby. Customer service is an 11. The other services are not quite the same.

In this day and age, why hook up with the bird? We have great technology these days. Libraries from Jones, TM Jones, or Newmusicserver (currents only), hire some friends to VT, imaging libraries can be purchased through barter, why not. The birds aren't doing anything the locals can't. Read liner cards, same showprep everyone reads, same artist info, I can do it, you can do it. However WE are in the community. We are at chamber, rotary, local sporting events, emceeing charity auctions. I'm preaching to choir and forgive me for going on a rant.

Just because a GM flips a switch doesn't mean it was something he or she wanted to do. This decision came from Good Radio. KJPW has some outstanding talent to do Country already. Marv, Chuck Boone, Daniel (can't remember his last name...sorry) and Skip Goforth. All good people!

Yeah.  I worked with Chuck in Houston at KUNQ.  He's a good ole boy.  But since they are on the bird at KIIK that makes extra work for the hands there as they are programming weather and community calendar.  Apparently they jump in and do news during the week, but not on the weekends.
