I was in Howell and Texas Counties during the time the storms came churning through North Central Arkansas and into Missouri on 2/4/08. Flipping around the radio dial while heading up 60/63 from Mtn. View back to Columbia, I was totally impressed by the wall-to-wall coverage that KKDY - West Plains - they really were the only station I could pick up that had anything on about the storms. Chuck Boone was on the air at the time - he was spotting storms on radar and had cells pegged as possible tornadoes even before NWS was issuing warnings on the same cell.
What is scary is that I had someone who lives in Texas County with me at the time; asked her what station she listens to for storm info - "oh, the TV or xxx radio station". Well, I flipped over to the xxx radio station was playing their automated music; at home she didn't have power at the time we were heading back for Houston so her family couldn't have even watched TV for weather updates.
If I remember from some of the media reports said some of the people that died didn't even know the storms were upon them.
