My old friend, Ron Davis, reports he has accepted a position as Senior News Producer at KSPR.
Ron and I go back to 1980, when we both worked at KGHM in Brookfield, MO. That lovely Linn county community was Ron's (aka Alex King) hometown, and nearly my Waterloo.
Anyway, in the 80's when I was working at KYOO at Bolivar, I invited Ron to join us as News Director. He eventually made his way to Springfield, to mature into perhaps the best writer I've ever personally known. He worked news at KSMU, then was a reporter for the News-Leader, and helped create 417 Magazine.
He runs a news blog called "Chatter" http://chatterbyrondavis.blogspot.com/
The choice of RD for News Producer at KSPR could be the first real movement towards a "new 33". There's nobody that understands Springfield news and politics better than Ron Davis, and hopefully he'll make an imprint on the product with his unique style.

| Somone has got to put News back on track and he is just the one to do it. We are losing any real reporters with Gohona,s to seek the truth or just tell news the way it is. GO RON.GO

Thanks for the nice words, Art. It's good to be back in the land of scanners and reporters.
Stay close for some truly exciting news from the KSPR front.

| I have always enjoyed 417 magazine, I think it's and excellent publication always looked classy and reflex's will on Springfield and the ozarks. It speaks well of Ron to do such outstanding work in print , radio and television.

From some things I've picked up on, I suspect strongly there will be a rebrand of KSPR coming.
Tracy Turner is leaving (or has been shown the door, not sure of which at this point) The job is posted at http://www.ky3.com/jobs (y'all do the math). Couple that with Margaret Burnquist's departure a month or and it adds up.
(I do note that they haven't posted for Burnquist's replacement yet)

Of course, Ron might might be the first person to ever make KSPR's news look credible...and that's an incredibly tall order.

Sneaky Snooper:
Tracy Turner is leaving KSPR on her own volition. We wish she would stay, but she's got great opportunities waiting for her on the East Coast, and no one here wants to hold her back.
She wasn't shown the door. She's leaving on her own free will, and we all wish her well. Just doing the math for you.

The what did you mean to imply by "Tracy Turner is leaving (or has been shown the door, not sure of which at this point) The job is posted at http://www.ky3.com/jobs (y'all do the math)."?
Certainly appears you strongly believed Turner had been shown the door. If not, why did you even suggest it as a possibility? Just trying to make trouble?

I had an email conversation with Michelle Sherwood, who's over at KSPR now. She also spoke highly of the news director, Brad Belote. Don't know him myself, but you can get a feel for his personality by reading the bio's he's written about the staff members.
So far, so good.

I had some mixed feelings about KSPR's newscast which I sampled for the first time last night. I saw some promise but a lot of problems as well. I'll be interested to see how Ron shapes up the ship.
