Now that I'm on the east coast - the only way to keep up with my old tv friends is thru their websites - but I'm curious as to why KOLR changed theirs.  Seems weak to say the very least.  Can't get a good feel for the station now.

Wow....  hmmmm.  Hey, Milt...nice to hear from you - I think.

I'm the managing editor for OzarksFirst.com, so I take some exception to your comment, as you might expect.

Back in January, we made a change on the website to become a community portal, rather than a television website.  KOLR10 and KSFX supply the news, weather and sports content, but the site is a lot more than that.  We have a lot of features meant to involve the community and those are ever-evolving. That's the basic philosophy behind the site as it is now.

I have to tell you, the site now is a vast improvement over the old kolr10.com - where we didn't have the ability to post video as we do now.  We're posting a ton of locally produced video daily and will soon have user-generated uploads available.   Weak to say the least?....that would be a good description of what we had before, in my opinion.

Hope that answers your question about why the change.

Hey Karen. Thanks for the updated note.  Nothing wrong with the site - just a change from what I was used to seeing.   Hope all is well.  All my best !

May I chime in here....

While I understand the idea of the 'community portal', and I certainly appreciate the added features of the new site, I have wondered about the wisdom of 'uncoupling' the website from your main brands.

In this case, the main brands are KOLR10 and KSFX.  The way I was taught, all outside marketing efforts (print, billboards, websites) should reinforce the main brands and enhance them.

In this case, you seem to be trying to establish a NEW brand.  Granted, there's a great deal of on-air promotion, and you've got the 'coupon deals' going to try  and entice web viewers to 'come on over'.   But, starting up and establishing a new brand (Ozarksfirst.com) is a tall order, and will take some time.  I'm just surprised that they didn't try to capitalize on existing brand (KOLR10.com).

But, who I am to judge.  AT&T became Cingular.  They spent five years and millions of dollars to create a whole new brand, only to blow it up and revert to AT&T.    I don't think I would have made that decision.

And with the posting of video on your web site, KY3 didn't blow up their web site when they entered into their agreement with KSPR.  KY3 has been posting video on their web site for a while now, and when they "relaunched" the KSPR web site they didn't consolidate the sites for the 2 stations.  They are even posting video on the KSPR site.

I think that this is more of a management decision since KODE/KSNF here in Joplin has done away with their individual station sites and now have fourstateshomepage.com for both of those stations.

A few years back, many of the Hearst-Argyle stations rolled-out web addresses such as:  "theiowachannel.com", or "theomahachannel.com", and promoted the heck out of them.  Recently, many of the stations' sites have reverted back to their calls with a dot com tacked-on (KCCI.com, KETV.com, etc.).

Seems to me that they'd want those call letters to become ingrained in peoples' minds, and forget adding something new to cloud the mix.  But then again, I'm just an outsider looking in, so I really shouldn't gripe.

KHOZ did the same thing in Harrison.  They had been calling their site, Ozarks Daily News.Com.

Individual brands are important in the new era. Your call letters are your brand.  Besides, who wants to type a URL  Omahanewschannel.com.  One typo and you are back to scare one.

I will say I find nothing wrong with the content on Ozarksfirst.com.  I think Karen has done an excellent job with the info.

Just my opinion.

This is a reverse-looking statement.

No question about it - Karen does a great job with the content, now that I know what I'm looking at.   I just wasn't used to the new look.  Being on the east coast, I will keep in touch with what's going on back in the Ozarks, via the web.  As Art mentioned earlier - and what I was trying to point out earlier - it's all about the branding.  Cheers!

I assume you control FourStatesHomepage.com as well.  I check that one and OzarksFirst.com daily.  Love the updated news and really enjoy the poll's.   Keep the site like it is cause everything is right in front of you with no sub menus.
