Even as crowded as the FM dial is getting, every now and then you have a good old fashioned cold front "tunnel," where distant signals override even the local flamethrower stations, as in today.
Driving northbound along Highway 5 south of Lebanon around noon, I scanned stations from Moberly - Kirksville - Ottumwa, then Pine Bluff, Searcy and a few others in Arkansas. Two hours later, the front had shifted and bent, so while driving south I scanned Kansas City, St. Joseph to the northwest, then Tulsa and Broken Arrow.
Kind of nice to be able to hear something other than the usual local chatter sometimes.
