I've been watching with interest the merger between Alltel and Verizon. According to the Springfield Business Journal, the conversion is underway.
--------------------------------
Customers with Alltel contracts can keep them for the remainder of their terms without any alterations to their plans, pricing or devices. When those contracts end, customers can to sign Verizon contracts, which should carry very similar terms, Hill said.
-----------------------------------
So, if I want a Blackberry Storm (which is only available from Verizon), I have to end my contract with Alltel, pay a fee for early termination of the contract, and sign up for Verizon.
At least they finally got the Joplin towers straightened out, so I'm not roaming in Joplin anymore.

An Alltel agent told us that if we wanted the mobile broadband service to sign up before the change over. Alltel's service is unlimited for $59.95. Verizon's is limited to 5GB/month for the same price.

I'm told Alltel customers are being allowed to switch to VZW anytime now with no penalty. (And honestly, why would you want a Storm? The Storm II is coming!)
In general, VZ's plans are far more expensive than Alltel's. I expect to see alot of those customers run to Sprint or even AT&T.

| I need to find out about that data plan. That is my only source for internet at my house. too far out in the boonies for DSL. If any of you can confirm that Verizon has a 5GB limit, I would appreciate it. I better renew my contract early!
