Here is additional information on the ABC replacement satellite receiver.

This site will further explain the details of the product:
XDS Satellite Receiver link <

The new receiver is called the XDS satellite receiver made by the
company X-Digital Systems.  It will phase out and ultimately replace the
Starguide receivers currently in use.  The XDS receiver will be provided
free-of-charge from ABC.  The receiver will require a full-time internet
connection so that it can communicate with our Network Operations Center
(NOC). The XDS receiver will use the same satellite, same transponder, and same
connections as Starguide, but has a number of features not found in
Starguide:

-A Built in recorder that will allow you to record programs for later
playback complete with netcues.

-The ability to have programming uploaded to the XDS via the internet.

-Automation function that will allow you to configure program schedules
for your receiver on the web

-The ability to configure your netcue mapping yourself over the web.

-The receiver has four output ports that can be treated as four separate
receivers. CO-LOCATED stations, that receive ABC Radio programming, may
be able to share one unit.

Once the new receiver arrives at the station, a follow up call from one
of our technicians will help to answer any questions and walk an
engineer through the installation and activation process.  We thank you
for your cooperation, and hope for a smooth transition to this new
platform by October 2007.

Quite frankly, that sounds pretty cool! Obviously dealing with a platform shift is a pain, but it sounds like there's a real, legitimate benefit to switching in this case.

Apparently XDS is serious about broadcast audio.  Here's are news release from their website . Art

-Digital Systems Inc. Acquires Certain Assets of Starguide Digital Networks from DG Fastchannel

Las Vegas, NV (4/18/2007) -- NAB 2007 -- - X-Digital Systems Inc. (XDS), a leading provider of next-generation multimedia communications systems, announced today that it has acquired certain assets of StarGuide Digital Networks from DG FastChannel, Inc. (NASDAQ: DGIT). As part of the agreement, X-Digital Systems has also secured a patent license for certain StarGuide patents. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

With this acquisition and licensing agreement, X-Digital will further its strategy of achieving growth through a combination of new business initiatives and strategic acquisitions, broadening its position as the leading provider of multimedia digital communications systems for the radio broadcast industry.

“StarGuide has a broad intellectual property portfolio, which provides us with a significant strategic advantage,” said X-Digital Systems President and CEO, Ian Lerner. “By acquiring a license to its current technology platform we’re deepening our commitment to the U.S. radio industry to deliver innovative products that help them to more effectively execute on their business goals. We plan to integrate StarGuide technology into our XDS-PRO line of satellite receivers, which will further our ability to provide our customers maximum flexibility and control over broadcast content, quality, and management.”

The acquisition will also enable X-Digital to offer current users of the StarGuide II and StarGuide III receivers the ability to economically transition to the next generation of XDS-PRO receivers which offer copy splitting, targeted ad insertion, store and forward capacity to accommodate multiple time zones, and web-based network management.
