As some of you know, I love a good hamburger.
Today, I had one of my favorites. The Pittsburg, KS original, the "1106'er", one of the specialities at the "1106 Drive In", across from PSU.
An old-fashioned, grilled burger served with ketchup, mustard, pickle and GRILLED onions.
OK, you shouldn't have them everyday. But, if you've never had one, and you love good, old-fashioned greasy burgers, this is for you!!!

| Oh, yeah, baby. Sounds great. Remember the place in Springfield that cooke their fries in the hamburger fat? Still have cholesterol from that joint!

Is that like when I was in college my roomate and I would "Fry Daddy" hot dogs? Crispy on the outside, nice and juicy on the inside! Have to wonder if that's the real reason behind my high cholesterol count these days.
(The Fry Daddy was also good for frying chunks of Blackwater River channel catfish and famous cajun Justin Wilson's hushpuppies).

My greasy burger of choice is the Strafford Drive In, aka Joe's Drive In located near the Strafford High school off I-44. The double bacon burger is choice with drippings til the end.
Next trip to gorilla land necessitates a visit to the 1106! Thanks for the tip Art.

| Now that I cook more than buy, I use half canola/half oliveoil, make a batter of Jiffy Corn Muffin mix with a little ground red pepper and freshly ground black pepper, and catfish chuncks from Sam's. Justin Wilson would be proud.

| Actually, if you're up in Columbia, try out the new Billiards on Broadway between 5th and 6th St., south side. Burgers are hand-made, usually crispy on the edge. Fries are super-thin, handcut. I've watched them make the burgers and I think the secret is at some point in the frying they put a bowl over the burgers while they're frying to keep the juices in. Yum, yum.
