| Ok let me start over from scratch. Lets say you are a sports fan. What is your opinion of Springfield sports talk radio ? If you were the PD of a sports station what would YOU do ? | You know I think MY Royals CAN lose 100 games this year. We just have to go 25 and 49. Very do-able. Just unload some of our "better" players by the trading deadline for " prospects." Grienke will lose interest ( he is already showing signs plus the Central has already figured him out ) Guillen is due for a meltdown. Hillman looks like he has aged 10 years in just 2. Saw alot of encouraging signs in the Boston series, players forgeting how many outs, no attempts at working the count or throwing to a correct base. You Cardinal fans and your pennent race... BAH HUMBUG !!!!

| NINE LOSSES in a row and counting !!! I'm so proud. All those 8 th inning blown leads. The general look of despair. I had to tune to 860 out of Pittsburgh to hear the double-header the other day since 1400 chose to only carry the nightcap. ( expletive deleted, I bet if it was CARDINALS game you could...) I think we can lose ALL 3 this weekend to the Rangers. My prediction : Hillman is fired at the end of the season and becomes a coach with the Yanks like Tony Pena did, and Frank White finally gets his shot since he is basically auditioning for the job every night on the telecasts and sounds like a genius. Of course that all changes once he is the dugout but hey...

Now 24 years without a post-season appearance, it is just beyond inexcusible for a professional organization. If the comissioner decided to pull the franchise, I would not be able to argue against it.
I happened to be driving by the K on Sunday, 30 minutes before gametime, and just kept right on going. Any other time in my life I would have pulled off 435 and gotten a cheap seat and a beer - but now, I'm absolutely disgusted.

| Ace, I dont think you get it. Yeah, guys my age ( and I am guessing yours) remember the grand ol days of being in the playoffs every year, I can remember in grade school the teacher dragging the tv into the classroom so we can watch Billy Martins Yankees break our hearts and in 1980 when we finally beat those bleeps. BUT todays Royals marketing campain has nothing to do with that. The Cubbies figured out decades ago that losing in a god-awful way is better than just being mediocre or .500. The K has been remodeled into a beer friendly mid-west version of Wrigley and knowing so many Royals fans grew up on WGN and da Cubs, now we have sad sacks of our own to root for. And we can say things like yeah, I listened to the late September make up game against Baltimore even though it didnt mean squat. We have adopted the Bob Uekerish in Major league attitude and regardless of how bad our team is BETTER DEAD THAN CARDINAL RED !!!!

I get it, but the difference is that the Cubs usually make the playoffs every few years.
If they had not played a single inning of post-season baseball since Reagan was settling into his second term, I don't think they would be as endearing as the current, lovable Cubbies.
The new K is nice, but its charm will wear off rather quickly as the sadistic, endless futility marches on in KC.

Before all the multiple divisions and the wildcard it wasnt THAT unusual for team to go decades without going to the playoffs IE Cleveland 1948 to 1995 ... Cubs 1945 to 1984... I think the folks in KC have realized that noone with Scott Boras for an agent is coming. Americans may love a winner but they also love a loser IE the 62 Mets outdrew the World Champion Yanks. The KC Royals of "most succesful expansion team ever" Died when Toronto went back to back in the 90's. So if you are the KC front office and you have to sell tickets and move merchandise what do you do ? DID you know when the Royals had that 19 game losing streak in 05 they had thier highest radio ratings and RSTN ( thier tv network at the time ) ratings EVER. Maybe the Royals wont go totally Cubs with the "its all alright as long as there is plenty of beer" and I dont see Denny singing the 7th inning stretch ( Ryan maybe) but until they can somehow recapture the 70's magic ... If I was GM of the Royals I would go totally Bill Veck as in Wreck with the wacky promotions and stunts maybe have my outfielders wear glasses like the Hanson brothers ...
