I hear that KHOM and KMBV are being sold. KHOM-Salem, AR 100.9 and KMBV-Birch Tree, MO 107.1 are operated from studios on the square in West Plains. I'm hearing that the new owners include a couple of well-known sports voices from Springfield. Anybody got any details?

Hello Art, Is Rick Vermillion (KUNQ - Houston, Missouri) the current owner? Wesley artmorris wrote: I hear that KHOM and KMBV are being sold.

Negative. Rick Vermillion LMA'd the stations for a short time, but that deal collapsed. The station is currently owned by Three Rivers Communications. According to FCC files, that's Fred and Barbara White of Leawood, Kansas. Fred White, as you recall, is the long-time broadcaster for the Kansas City Royals. I haven't seen who the principals are yet for the buyer, reported to be "Diamond Media". Last edited on Sun Jul 31st, 2011 11:33 pm by artmorris |

Allow me to be the first to volunteer to work their boards for minimum wage! Seriously though, this is news to me. Any word on format changes?

Here is the official word from Radio Business Report. A pair of FM stations is being sold in an unrated territory where southern Missouri meets up with northern Arkansas. When all is said and done, Diamond Media LLC will have stations with a good bit of contour overlap. The stations are KHOM-FM Salem AR and KBMV-FM Birch Tree MO. Diamond, headed by Arch B. Watson and Thomas M. Ladd, will pay $965K for the stations. The bulk of that will be in cash -- $710K to be exact – and the remaining $255K will be paid pursuant to terms of a promissory note. In addition to the stations, Diamond will be a Dodge Caravan. A TBA/LMA is contracted to begin 8/1/11, and the parties agree that 9/4/11 is the buyer’s target date to flip both stations to a Sports format with the seller’s blessings. The seller is Three Rivers Communications LLC, headed by Fred and Barbara White. KHOM is a Class C2 on 100.9 MHz with 50 kW @ 492’. KBMV is a Class C3 on 107.1 MHz with 25 kW @ 328’.

So does this mean that they'll put ESPN Radio on one station and Fox Sports Radio on the other? Sounds like they'll be playing both sides against the middle.

Being from West Plains, I don't see a sports format being overly successful.

Sports formats in general don't fare too well (see the Spring Arbitron discussion in the main Springfield forum), but man, are they cheap to operate. I'd rather rake in a hefty percentage profit on a low rated format than be number one and not making as much. Then again, it's that thinking that is the bane of radio's existence today.

I tried to pick up 100,9 FM in Springfield on my van radio and could not get them. Are they listenable in the Springfield area? Mike Edwards used to work for me and I am interested in what he is doing of course. Any answers??? Last edited on Sat Aug 13th, 2011 12:03 am by XGM |

XGM, 100.9 is not, but occassionally you can pick up 107.1 here in town.

Hey Curt, I will call you and fill you in on this adventure. So far it's been a lot of work getting ready for our format switch. After being out of the business for a while it's been good to have a quick refresher course. We have some talented people and great sales people to work with. Good challenges ahead and we're looking forward to them all! Talk to you soon!
