| Today, August 18th, 2008, is somewhat of a milestone in Eastern Missouri radio. 54 years ago KLPW-AM signed on at Union, Missouri and 93 years ago, the man who's initials still identify the station, Les Ware, was born at Leslie, Missouri. Les helped establish KXLW in St. Louis (now KSIV) and KWRE in Warrenton where he was the first GM. In later years, Les built, owned and operated at least a dozen radio and TV stations in Missouri, Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado. Les was only 68 when he passed away in 1984 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Bob Hamilton, now at KMOX, got his start working for Les at KLPW. Many others, myself included, got our start working for Les, a true broadcast entrepreneur.
