I've watched the first 2 episodes of "Life on Mars" on ABC. Not sure it's going to last long, because this kind of show has a hard time finding an audience. Reminds me of last year's "Journeyman". I enjoyed it, but I know I'm one of only a few.
Anyway, the show started me thinking about 1973. In retrospect, 1973 seems to be when the 60's ended and the 70's began. Most people associate the year with Nixon and Watergate. But, there are a lot of things I remember.

Some random thoughts about the era.
*I was 18, turned 19 in July.
*It was the last 'pre-disco' year. The 'disco era' began with "Rock the Boat" in 1974.
*The 55 MPH national speed limit was passed in response to the oil crisis.
*Most people still had rotary-dial phones. Many were still on party lines.
*Most people had monochrome TV's. (That's black & white for non-tech people).
*Cable TV existed, but mostly in areas where TV reception sucked. (IE Trenton, MO)
*Sony introduced the 'mini-cam' and built a portable U-matic recorder for it. ENG was born.
*KY3 & KOLR10 were using fax images of the National Weather Service radar, which was still south of Monett.
*AM radio was king. Long live KICK, WHB, KXOK, and "Beaker Street" on KAAY.
*FM radio was either 'good music', or that 'dope-smokin' music the kids listened to.
*Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, et. al. were building computers in their garages.
*In Springfield, the "Ranch Hands" were stirring things up on Radio 14.

The more I think about it, the more I realize what a pivotal year it was in the history of the last several decades. Glad I was there.
